Rendevous

We had been invited to speak..."Living the Life"...at my brother-in-law's annual Robert Perry Design Rendezvous on Saturday. Not that I know much if anything about sailing in Seattle....from my mom's house we took the ferry to Port Ludlow.....It was overcast and cold...at least for me...We both enjoyed being around sailboats and "cruisers" again for awhile! We introduced Watertimes.org at the get together and were very encouraged with the interest in the photography and prints for sale! We are hoping to update the website before we head back to Guatemala! .... Of course our talk went a little long.......and the blind dingy races are a race with a different motor...this is my nephew and his wife.......and this young man thought that he could point...and his blindfolded dad would understand that it was time to turn...that way...we had a great laugh!
A cruisers potluck for dinner...amazing that so much great food came from sailboat galley's! To end the evening my nephew played his guitar and sang some of his songs...then Bob and friends played as well. A great rendevous (thanks for the invite Jill and Bob). A great time was had by all!

Sailing and Golf....

Captain Paul has many times told me that sailing and golf do not go together...not that I listen...So, when I went over to Pullman to visit my son and youngest daughter...after a two year no golf hiatus...I thought...let's go play!My daughter ended up being the BEST driver...My son can still golf and keep score (although I wouldn't let him with my daughter and I)...And...I only LOOK like I can play!!! Perhaps Captain Paul is right THIS time about golf...but...we did have a wonderful time...I so enjoy spending time with my children! I love you guys!!

Still....

Yes, I still love Washington...
Since renting out my lake home I have never spent more than an hour or so there...going into the garage to get something I have put into my "storage". This summer when stopping by and doing a walk around to inspect it, I found that the kitchen patio fence had rotted and was falling down. This was totally unacceptable to me and having "more time than money"...wanting an easy care solution...and forgetting about the work involved...I decided to continue the rockery that my youngest daughter and I had made 10 years ago or so! I thought I could get it done in 3 days....being 10 years older you would think I had more sense...but no...with all the lifting, wheelbarrowing, arranging, mudding, and "finish"...it took 4 days...(well 3 1/2 days)! Now granted...the first day was arriving late...arranging for the rock delivery later that afternoon...borrowing a neighbors shovel, wheelbarrow, broom, clippers (thank you Richard...I have no idea where mine went from the garage)...Paul driving all the way back to my mom's house (hour and a half one way) because I had left the keys to the garage there...and me...well not one to sit...I tackled (and I use that term literally) some of the much needed yard work...oy vey...I was sore before the rocks even arrived!Paul mixed mud the next day...usually while sitting...and took the role of the supervisor...that helped for a day. I left him at my sister's lake place the following day...and continued to go at it! A summer thunderstorm at 5:00pm stopped me from finishing...plus I was guesstamating I would need two more mortar's. The fourth day with muscles crying "stop" and two more mortar's...by 1:30pm I finished!!! After taking down one Magnolia tree growing too close to my drain field...we headed back to my mom's... So while this patio can now be considered "easy care"...what it took to get it there...well...the good news is I can STILL do it!!! I found that I still really enjoy working hard...accomplishing things...and this morning as I type this all of my muscles are a little less sore. I found that I still really like my lake house...yet, I still have more yard work to accomplish there before our "vacation" is over here in Seattle. I also found....there is a lot to be said for the word "still"... The next time I am there I'll actually take a picture of the lake and share that with you!!

Pacific Northwest Scuba Diving

My son is now an official Open Water Scuba Diver...We had great fun together...but oh, it WAS cold...and the viz on our Open Water dive 3 & 4...was 5 feet...I kid you not! Going down to 35 feet we could not see the top...or the bottom...and could BARELY see each other! Talk about good practice for keeping your buddy CLOSE!! Then there was the kelp on the bottom so he had to do all of his excercises while keeping his buoyancy...AND, since he is a big guy (6 foot 3 inches) and just shy of 300 pounds...his equipment was not the best. Because of the 7 mil suits...I had to wear 30 POUNDS of extra weights...he had to wear 54 POUNDS of extra weights AND he only had a 60 pound weight lift BCD!! Divers..."feel" hitting 30 feet with 54 extra pounds!!! So a few more pictures...This was taken on the confined water dives about 16 feet deep...but again nothing really great because there really was not good viz! The best news is that we perservered...and he is certified! I have been told by quite a few people that if you can scuba dive up here in the Northwest...you can suba dive ANYWHERE...now I know why!! I really am hoping to get him and perhaps my two daughters as well to Roatan this year...cruising year...and have some real diving and fun!! I am suppose to be teaching one of my girlfriends and another of her friends in a couple of weeks here too...After I tell them what diving in Puget Sound (Hood Canal) is like, we will see if they will want to meet me in Roatan as well! So, while the Pacific Northwest is still my all time favorite for summer weather above the waterline...I have not yet been convinced that below the waterline is worth the TREMENDOUS effort...but stay tuned...I have not given up either!
