Sun Mar 2 8:16 am You might remember back a few weeks when I spent the better part of a day unclogging the forward head. I have lived on the Lady for almost 4 yrs now. It seems , when you combine salt water with what we put into the head (toilet to you land people) there is a chemical reaction that leaves a deposit on the inside of the hose. This hose is approx. 1 inch in diameter. At some point the deposits completely close down the hose. When I worked on the forward head this was all a mystery. This time we went to Home Depot and went at the clog with a snake and some chemical additives. I;m told this is calcium based deposit. So I added a qt of CLR and let it sit overnight. Nope not strong enough. I used a pair of pliers to crush the plastic hose breaking up the hard(like concrete) deposit lining the hose. I would then run the snake up to the clog, work it for 3-4 min then run another thin water hose up to the clog , turn on the water and flush out the chunks. This was repeated 20-30 times as each attempt resulted in one inch of concrete. I finally reached a point where the 1 in pipe connected to a larger. The snake and hose would get caught at this point.
Remember, I, on my knees, chest on the hopper working behind the head. Not a comfortable position for a back patient with a sore knee . I removed half of the A/C unit behind the head to get to the connection. Then working by feel only I was able to loosen the hose clap and remove the hose. Damn...the bigger hose was also clogged. Using some long screw drivers, I was able to open up this hose. Everything back together...SUCCESS...I knew I was going to hurt...Joyce decided to clean up. I think she got the nastier job. I took a hot shower and a cold beer. Only took 3 1/2 hrs. That doesn't count the 3-4 hrs on Thur and Fri. But it's done. Now I have to figure out how to prevent this. Not something I want to do in another 3-4 yrs.
We were up at 8am.This Am was painful ,a percocet moment , paying for yesterday. Wind light, Joyce wanted to take all the empty boxes and trash over to Crown Bay. Easier to get rid of stuff over there, but a 15 min dink ride, not on the top of my to do list with my back pissed. So she went over ...my turn to cook breakfast.Spinich and Feta omlet Hmmmm came out pretty good...it's in the cookbook. The rest of today will be a day to recover.....work on getting ready to sail to Gaudeloupe on Wed.
