Rain and Roatan
Utila to Roatan...We were going to check in on Monday in Utila...and I was going to go diving with a dive shop Monday afternoon. Well, Monday morning the wind looked nothing like the grib said. But it did look good for sailing...albeit pinching...to Roatan. So we didn't even wait to check in (although we did wait until I got back my memory stick which I left in the internet shop...and the guy had taken home...I was not very happy...nor was I very nice about it...but I did get it back...and I could have been wrong...and nicer...oh well...next time!!). It was a very wet and bouncy sail! When the squalls were going over we could motor-sail...reefed of course...around 8 knots...when there were no squalls we motored at 6 knots. The last squall was especially bad...we could see the line of rain coming...and reefed just in time for 25 to 30 knot gusts! Just as we got to Roatan we caught up with the boat Lady in Red that had left a little over an hour before us from Utila. We went over to the East end of the island and ducked behind the reef at an area near Fantasy Island because of the northerlies that are fairly prevelant this time of year. Anchor down and we relaxed. A cruiser that we had met up the Rio came by in his dingy and gave us information on this part of town. Very nice! Today we wanted to go to the store...and hopefully to a TIGO store. We really wanted to try to get internet on the boat...and not have to go into town! First we wandered (via dingy of course) over to the marina, and chatted with Jeanie and Jim on Oasis. They had left the Rio about a month ago. It was nice to catch up...got even more information and then... they helped with a tour of the marina ...and calling a cab to get us to the stores! When we got back more chatting while...I tried to get a picture of these little guys...beautiful...Jeanie has the feeder on the back of her boat! The only thing I know for sure is that it is rainning here...and that before we leave here to where ever (boat issues you know)...I hope to be able to share some underwater pictures with you!!
