Fri Oct 3rd Chestertown Maryland 8:51 pm
This little boat has what is called a trot line. What they do is take a 200 foot piece of line and put chicken necks every two or three feet. Then they drop them in the water...they sink to the bottom and the crabs grab onto them to eat. When the line comes around to the top....the crab is still holding onto the chicken neck...and the guy nets the crab!!!
We left Annapolis Tue Am and motored across the Bay and up the Chester River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland to the historic town of Chestertown. The Eastern Shore is a world away from the Red ( Damn Left Wing Waco's)zone of Baltimore and the Balt-Wash corridor. Over here the values of mid-America still reign. I was here back in 1955 when my family was making a move from the Left coast (Calif) so my father could start up the new Getty oil refinery in Delaware. We had driven across the US..,no interstates back then. We had crossed the Bay Bridge and were on our way to Delaware 2-3 hrs to the north.
About 1 pm we stopped here...yep Mom and Dad enjoyed their beer too ...to get a 6 pack and a few Cokes for me...only 8 back then.....had not acquired my taste for beer...well my Mom goes in here to buy a 6 pack and a few Cokes for me. On the way out she misses a small step, falls and breaks her leg. She was stuck in the local hospital for 5 days.
Dad and I were forced to stay here...Remember this was August...back before global warming when it was really hot in August. No motels in town back then. We were on the 3 rd floor...no A/C ...must have been 100 deg up there. Went to a movie....they had A/C....Audie Murphy in "To Hell and Back". You have to be an old fart to remember that one. Well any way we had a beer for old times sake,,,Joyce had a Coke...back to the boat. Been resting for a few days...been nice for me...TOO COLD for Joyce.
We got off the boat today for a ride...will let Joyce fill you in on that. Tomorrow we will go in for the Farmers Market, then head back to Annapolis and get ready for the Boat Show.
