Chestertown

At first I was a little skeptical about MOTORING up the Chester River for HOURS...just to see this little town. The River is wide but the channel is very narrow...so we were snaking up the River between the red and greens!

As we got further up the River...what a joy and delight to see the countryside...beautiful large farms...estates really...
We anchored right before this bridge...which would have opened if we had asked...but there was no need as the dingy dock was near...
Very historic town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Chestertown has served as Kent County's seat of government since 1706. Chestertown has been a Royal Port of Entry, the scene of its own Revolutionary Tea Party (1774), and the hub of a thriving agricultural and seafood area which shipped its products on the once-ubiquitous steamboats. So we stayed and went to the Saturday Farmer's Market. There were fresh vegetables, fresh flowers, plants, herbs (of which we now have an additional thyme plant), fresh meat (of which we bought bacon, sausage and a large chuck roast) and there was the dairy farm represented with fresh cheese from Jersey cows...so of course we had to buy a couple of pounds of that too!!!
Then we went to lunch at the "locals" Blue Heron Restaurant...the food was wonderful. For me what was even more refreshing was the conversation...listening to the owner of the restaurant and the locals talking politics! What a breath of fresh air...and old time values!!! They talked of politics with substance, facts and history...not of emotion...
We met these two gentlemen on our way out of the Marina getting ice. They too openly discussed politics with us...
And, then on the beautiful afternoon they left their wives at home and went for a sail.... There is this bridge that connects Chestertown and what seems like the rest of the world...but it seems to me as if there is a "disconnect" with the rest of the troubled world here.
Here there is a quietness...an openess...here the solutions are predominately hard work. As we left....I asked Paul if the Eastern Shore had every thought of becoming an independant state from Maryland...because if it did...I would want to live here!!!!
And, so, yes....one last thought....look at what a big ripple one little duck can make...yes??? Ha ha ha!!!!
